JOB SUMMARY

The Data & Analytics Director makes decisions about which voters and members of the general public are likely to be engaged on clean economy issues and campaigns, and maintains voter file information that permits the organization to educate the public and motivate supporters to become active civic participants in an efficient manner. This position will be housed in the Campaigns Department, but will work across the entire organization to develop and oversee data and targeting related activities on issues and elections. We seek a strategic thinker who can help ACE and its sister organization, Climate Education Advocates (CEA), utilize data and analytics to engage environmentally-minded citizens (with a particular focus on under-35 years olds)  across the country to build support for our strategic priorities. 

The Data Director is primarily responsible for managing ACE’s program databases, CRM, targeting and analytics, while bringing the information in them together to provide breakthrough insights that will  power our outreach. The Data & Analytics Director will be a key driver in imbuing a culture of learning and adjustment (both on the quantitative and qualitative sides) across all campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Management

  • Oversee the data architecture of the organization by adding new components, streamlining components, automating pipelines, and monitoring for errors.  Ensure all outreach is tracked in the VAN.
  • Strategize and optimize Salesforce CRM and SQL database architecture, including managing objects/tables, workflows, managing automated data merging/cleaning, process builders and other administrative tasks.
  • Work with our team to spot data anomalies and inaccuracies, take corrective and preventive measures and ensure process compliance with all stakeholders. Maintain our in-house VAN and continually improve user experience.

Data Visualization & Analysis 

  • Bring together data from different sources to create user-friendly interactive dashboards/reports.
  • Explore data and actively uncover and disseminate and present insights to teams.
  • Compile standard and ad hoc reports for internal teams and funders.

Project Management

  • Work with team members and leadership across the organization to help track and report relevant data.
  • Ensure that tasks and capacity are matched and resource additional capacity as needed.
  • Recruit, onboard and manage department staff to meet departmental goals.


Ability to work overtime with little notice; able to work hours exceeding stated office hours to get the job done.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will be eager to lead sophisticated, concurrent campaigns and exhibit a meticulous, self-motivated, and collaborative work ethic. They must be proactive, results-oriented, and possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in issue advocacy and/or electoral campaigns focused on voter contact, program data management, experimentation, and targeting. Must demonstrate a strong track record of utilizing modeling in campaign settings to drive measurable outcomes.
  • Advanced technical expertise in data management and analytics, with proven experience in managing complex datasets and systems. Proficiency with VAN, Targetsmart, Catalist, SQL, or similar data tools is required. Hands-on experience with database architecture and troubleshooting is essential.
  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to design and execute data-driven programs that align with organizational priorities and produce actionable insights.
  • High-level project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism. Prior experience leading cross-functional teams and managing competing priorities is essential.
  • Fluency required in Tableau, Salesforce (preferred), Monday.com, Engaging Networks, Slack, Google Apps, Google Data Studio, Zoom, or similar tools. Must demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and integrate new technologies into workflows as needed.
  • Expertise in data analysis and visualization, with the ability to synthesize complex data from multiple sources and present findings in an actionable, user-friendly format. Proficiency in Python, R, or other scripting languages to manage and analyze data is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate technical analysis into digestible insights for diverse audiences, from funders to field teams. Must have experience converting non-technical requests into actionable technical requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in building, mentoring, and managing data and analytics teams. A proven ability to instill a culture of collaboration, learning, and adjustment across departments.
  • Deep understanding of campaign strategies and the strategic use of data to influence public engagement and voter behavior. Familiarity with environmental issues and their intersection with public engagement is highly desirable.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to quality control and process improvement, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data systems and outputs.
  • Flexible and adaptive, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining composure and a high standard of work.
 

POSITION DETAILS

  • Annual salary range: $120,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience
